An important Canadian
regional compilation. This one's from Guelph, Ontario,
a small city with a large musical community. Guelph
Happens was produced entirely by the musicians
involved; no radio stations, recording studios, magazines
or managers were responsible for its production. Benefit
concerts raised the money for manufacturing; individual
bands paid for their own recording expenses, and then
coordinated a huge volume of material and support from
the community.
All proceeds from
the album will benefit Guelph Wyndham House; a cooperative
living residence for young women between the ages of 16
and 21, who are unable to live at home but who wish to
continue in full-time educational programs. The album
features eleven of Guelph's most prominent independent
bands. Twenty-two songs (2 songs by each act), seventy-six
minutes of music and a sixteen page insert booklet give
a focused look at what's happening in Guelph these days.
The bands on the album are Apollo 13,
Back Drop Theory, Billy But,
Black Cabbage, Box Meat Revolution, Dissemblers, King Cobb Steelie,
Rob Maclean, Minnow,
Troll, and Weasel.
