After performing with
many bands for many years, this album marks Jeff Bird's
transcendence from the role of supporting musician into
that of solo artist.
This self-titled album
exploits all of Jeff's prolific talent, and the resulting
tracks are riddled with devious and demented groove explorations,
fat and scrappy soundblasts, dark and moody poetic introspection,
which provides a general all-round mind-twisting listen.
From the upbeat Driving Line (lyrics by Sue Smith), to
the melancholy Gregorian rendition of Leonard Cohen's
"One of Us Cannot Be Wrong", to the inspired
interpretation of Dylan Thomas' poem "Take the Needles
and the Knives", this recording will make you listen,
make you think, and make you smile.
Recorded at Ty Tyrfu,
the tracks feature performances by Randall Coryell (Alannah
Miles, Tom Cochrane), Tony Quarrington (Joe Hall and the
Continental Drift, Tony Quarrington Band), Ken Myhr (Cowboy
Junkies, Jane Siberry),
Murray Ritchie (Hoofbeats), Sue Smith (Bird Sisters),
Gwen Swick, Dorren Smith, and Jude Vadala (Bird Sisters).
CO-produced by Jeff Wolpert and Jeff Bird, and mixed at
Mclear Pathe by Jeff Wolpert.
