"Stomp On Wood" is a compilation of 11 Ontario
bands who present there individual take on Tom's Music.
It would have been easy for the bands to duplicate what
has already been done. But most bands chose to give the
music a fresh edge. A highlight is the first track, "A
Tribute To Tom Connors" by Bud Roberts, an old musician
friend of Tom's. While not actually a song by Tom, it is
delivered in all the true spirit complete with stompin'.
The disc is full of variety including many styles and interpretations
using Celtic, country, folk, grunge, ska and experimental.
Stompin' Tom is an icon and a pioneer in Canadian
music. Like many of the musicians on this album, he paid
for the manufacturing of his own records when he first started
out and distributed them from the back of his car. He was
an indie musician before the term was coined and respected.
This album is a tribute to that spirit and dedication and
a proof that it is still alive today. Tom's music is loved
by people of all different ages and backgrounds in this
country. It's popularity and influence has stretched far
past the borders of country music. He is a forefather of
all Canadian music and we thank and honour him for his contribution.
