People From Earth
"a warpo rock band...extremely adventurous. every song tries a new musical trick and they're technically good enough to pull it off.... One of the best original sounds around..."
- Laurie Brown, CBC
.

"People From Earth has that exciting sound of a band on the brink of something big. There's an excitement and energy to the music, and enough new musical ideas to take this band well into the next millennium." -Laurie Brown, Definitely Not The Opera, CBC.

People From Earth are John and Doug Tielli, Pierce and Derek Allen, and Casey McGlynn. The uniqueness and diversity of their music render it difficult to classify, yet simplicity and charm make it accessible. They play progressive pop/rock with stylistic influences from classical, jazz, country, and African music. Particular inspirations include the Pixies, the Beatles, Neil Young, Jeff Buckley, and Joni Mitchell. Nothing is off limits for People from Earth which is why their music is so unpredictable and exciting.

Their music is layered with clean melodies and propelling rhythms. Juxtapositions of loud-and-hard with soft-and-gentle passages dynamically accentuate their songs. Unorthodox use of the trombone, cello and other instruments has become their trademark. Haunting, delicate harmonies sung by the beautifully matched voices of brothers John and Doug contrast with the fresh, bold style of Casey's delivery. The sharp, sophisticated lyrics reveal personality, passion and wit. PFE are smart, funny, authentic and ironic. People From Earth are based in Toronto and, since 1992, have been captivating and astonishing audiences throughout southern Ontario. They have accumulated a loyal following and are perpetually enticing new members into their "Luv Y'all Up Fan Club," which publishes a newsletter. The band has played alongside the Inbreds, Mrs. Torrance and Hayden and toured with the Rheostatics.

In 1995, People From Earth released their debut album Growing Up From The Ground, "a masterpiece of ingenuity and abnormality that leaves the listener in a near death stupor of contentment" (Andrew Stuart Deane, The Strand). The CD was listed on Sam The Record Man's top-ten indie chart for ten weeks. The album was also charted on campus radio in the Maritimes.

John Sakamoto of the Toronto Sun listed two singles from the CD in his weekly alternative top 10 feature. People from Earth have performed live on CFNY-Radio, City TV, and Global TV. They have been showcased nationally on CBC-Radio's Reeltime and Definitely Not The Opera. Their video for the song "Martian Gold" received airplay on MuchMusic. The group has also been featured on three compilation CDs. Luvskull is People From Earth's latest effort. It is the culmination of two years of writing, arranging and recording. .
