DROG has been laying low for a few years now, taking on
a kind of mentoring role behind the scenes. We continue to explore ways
to enhance the musical potential of our friends and spread the good
word. While we do not sell or distribute CDs by individual artists, we
do still make the theme albums available. All proceeds from these
albums is distributed to various benevolent organizations. A list of
recent donations is available here. We are also happy to say that most
of the members of our community continue to be active in their artistic
careers, and we highly recommend that you check out their amazing
music, both live and on disc!
Lewis Melville continues to record and produce, and has
released several new albums under the DROG banner. The latest theme
album, 60 Second Songs, came out in 2002 as well the most recent solo
disc - Noah's Work. Recent releases include a number of collaborative
albums which he recorded with musicians from Mali, West Africa during a
major music-in-development project in Bamako in 2004. More information
about the Mali
Project is available at Tannis
Slimmon's Mali webpage. Recordings by Mansa Sissoko,
Abdoulaye Kone and Jah Youssouf are available for download at Calabash Music and the National
Geographic World Music Sites.
Lewis also has recent offerings from the Woodchoppers Association, the
Hoofbeats,
the Williams, and others. In addition to contributing to
projects by other artists, he is currently co-producing Tannis
Slimmon's new record, and performing with Tannis Slimmon, Michael
Johnston, the Hoofbeats, and the Woodchoppers. He also volunteers for
Hillside Festival, helping artistic director Sam Baijal organize and
facilitate the music workshops.
Dave Teichroeb(www.davet.ca) has returned to Guelph,
where he is writing and performing his songs as a solo artist, raising
his family, and working as a carpenter.
He organizes a songwriters showcase at Manhattan's music club in Guelph
once a month, and promotes shows by his visiting musical friends from
Texas and beyond.
